“What Students Really Need to Hear”

Be sure to watch the following video if you are a student, teacher or parent!

I found this video on another teacher’s blog at the beginning of this school year. I found it at just the right time. My students were giving up, stating I was being too hard on them and asking why I care. I played this video for them and they were all in awe! One of my students actually asked “Do you really stay up late at night?” I then responded that I don’t have sleepless nights but what happens in the classroom does effect my the remainder of my day. I received this video in two different emails today so thought I should share with my bloggers about this amazing video and what really students are saying about it. After watching the video I had my students respond to the video about what they felt.

Here are some of their responses:

  • teachers do care about their students and don’t hate them
  • teachers want students to move up and become excellent and smart students
  • good to know that teachers care that much about us
  • school isn’t just about learning it’s about the struggle of life and having to deal with it
  • this video is like a wake up call
  • it isn’t about homework and classwork and exams or even midterms its saying don’t give up on yourself
  • try your hardest instead of giving up or quitting
  • it inspires me to act like a man and take everything serious
  • the video made me feel that there are people looking out for me
  • every time I take the easy way out i am distroying my future
  • this video motivates you to do better and try harder
  • you should never quit because the world just keeps moving with or without you
  • students should always fight to do there best and to never give up

Here is one students reaction to the video:

I am one of these kids. I am a kid that doesn’t do anything but somethings I do do, but most of the things I dont care about. I didn’t try that hard in middle school or 9 grade because I really didn’t care about school,  but now I see what will happen and I need to pick it up and try. I will be one of thoughs people that try and that succseed in life.

Hope you enjoyed some of the students responses to this AMAZING video and message!

Currently I’m (November)……

So I have been MIA for a while on this space where I place my thoughts, feeling, cooking and crafting ideas. I have had LOTS of schoolwork to get done. I know, I know it was what I said last month. I seem to get ahead then fall behind. I am now getting to the point where I am ahead and I am so excited to share all the fun and exciting crafts and recipes I have in the works.

So for the month of November currently I am……..

…..reading “Looking for Alaska” by: John Green. After finishing “The Fault in our Stars” and loving it I planned to read another one of his books. A student recommended “Looking for Alaska” so that is why I am reading it!

…..watching I most recently have been watching whatever I can find on my TV. I have enjoied having MTV and The Learning Channel back on our TV. I tend to always have something playing in the background.

….trying to figure out what is important to me and how I can get rid of some of the eggs I have in SEVERAL baskets. I sometimes feel like I am so overwhelmed but I think it is because I just have so much going on at one time.

……eating nothing. I am getting reading to go work out and don’t want to get sick. I did however just eat some YUMMY milk duds! (Leftover Halloween candy)

Milk duds

….pinning holiday related! I love this time of year and can’t wait to have time off to do all the fun crafts I have planned.

……tweeting all of my recent blog and Instagram posts. I also have been following @whenisnap_time she is a great friend and fellow blogger!

28-150x150.

……going to be heading to bed soon so I can get up and do it all over again tomorrow!

……loving life in general. I am planning a wedding and I have wonderful friends.

……discovering all that God has to offer when diving deeper into the Bible.

……enjoying the feeling of a good workout. Muscles feel tight but not sore!

…thinking about my good friend and her baby. Saying a sweet prayer for safety.

……feeling grateful for all the wonderful blessing in my life.

….listening to the TV in the background as finish up this much needed blog post.

……thanking  God for all of the good that is in my life. Along with the good comes the bad. I just have to remain whole in him and stay positive and thankful. I am thankful for  my sweet nephew!

……starting to remember how much I enjoy blogging and how much I wish it was my full time job.

Book #15: Bang (Vision) (Goal 50)

IMG_0925

Bang (Vision)

By: Lisa McMann

After reading the first book in this series, Crash (Check out my review HERE), I was hooked. I wanted to know what would happen in the next vision and who it would have the vision. In the second book of this series Bang the vision has now been transferred to another character that is close to Jules, her boyfriend. The remainder of this review is written as if you have read the first book. If you have not read the first book please be sure you do so. If you are the kind of reader where you don’t want anything spoiled please STOP reading and go pick up the first book in this Visions Series: Crash.

If you have read the first book you know that Jules has saved Sawyer and his family from a large truck that was coming towards their pizza shop. Now that Sawyer has been saved the vision has been transfer to him. He is unsure of what the vision is and is having a hard time understanding everything that is happening in his vision. As Jules walks him through the process that she went though in the first book they have to get creative about how they meet up. Jules parents are still not ok with Sawyer and Jules being an item/couple. As the story continues more people become involved in the vision to help them solve the unknown mystery. This book, like the first was VERY good! I would totally recommend this series to others. This is a trilogy so be on the look out for my upcoming post about the third book, Gasp!

Amazon Summary:

What Sawyer’s seeing might mean murder. The second “dramatic, quick-paced thriller (Kirkus Reviews)” in a series from the New York Times bestselling author of the Wake trilogy.

Jules should be happy. She saved a lot of people’s lives and she’s finally with Sawyer, pretty much the guy of her dreams. But the nightmare’s not over, because she somehow managed to pass the psycho vision stuff to Sawyer. Excellent.

Feeling responsible for what he’s going through and knowing that people’s lives are at stake, Jules is determined to help him figure it all out. But Sawyer’s vision is so awful he can barely describe it, much less make sense of it. All he can tell her is there’s a gun, and eleven ear-splitting shots. Bang.

Jules and Sawyer have to work out the details fast, because the visions are getting worse and that means only one thing: time is running out. But every clue they see takes them down the wrong path. If they can’t prevent the vision from happening, lives will be lost. And they may be among the casualties…

{Let me know if you read the book! Would love to know what you think!}

Words of Encouragement???

Sad Words

I had a very interesting day yesterday. I have so many feeling s about what happened that I felt I needed to write a post!

You’re not good enough!

You are going to amount to nothing!

You are a failure!

How do people go through life hearing these words!?

How do people even allow these words to come out of their mouth!?

I am a teacher. I tend to believe that I have a very positive “can do” attitude. NO ONE is DUMB. NO ONE CAN’T. They just might just need to ask for help after trying. How do people or adults expect high schooler’s (children) to do what is asked of them, if all they hear are words in which break them down. I love my job and I try to stay positive when I am around the students. I wish sometimes that they would truly understand how much I care. At times I question about how much I give. After today I know there will NEVER be enough to give. How many times can you tell a student that they are valued? Never enough! I feel like so many students are just lacking the confidence in what they are capable of achieving. I am trying so hard to make a change. I know that it needs to be more then me. The whole village of teachers needs to continue to lift up students with encouraging words when needed. I wish more people would see how students are impacted on a more personal level.

All I can do after today is pray for the student that sparked this feeling in me. I am so grateful for what and how I was raised. I feel bad for the circumstances that are at home. I cannot change what happens but I can plant a positive seed in this student. If you are a believer if you would just add this student to your prayer list. I pray that the fire will be lit within the student and they will have the motivation and drive to do good and please themselves and not others.

Love and Peace.

One Word, One Prayer: Favorite Verse

I have not done my one word one prayer for a while. Last month I tried to blog everyday in September and this month I am just trying to survive my life and a job. I have several IEP’s that are currently sitting on my desk that need to be completed. Once I am done teaching for the day I need to feed my soul and recharge my body. I have been working out and attending bible study. After attending a woman’s conference event at my local church I have been trying to be consistent in my journaling. While I was journaling a verse caught my eye. I went to my bible and found the verse. I underlined it in my bible it was that striking to me.

bible verse
This print was found on The Educated Owl’s Etsy shop! Check out her store she has some SUPER cute items!

Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.”

1 Peter 3:3-4 New Living Translation (NLT)

So for this week instead of a word I have decided to keep this verse at the front of my brain. This verse is so AWESOME for young girls that feel as though they should put so much time, effort and money into their outward beauty.

Does this verse hit home for you? Please comment below if this strikes you so that I can pray for you also!

Love Dare: Day 18

Love Dare

Well if you are following along and completing the LOVE DARE you should be on day 18!!!!! Congrats! I have not been following along doing every dare but I have done a few along the way. The dare for today is to:

“Prepare a special dinner at home, just for the two of you. The dinner can be as nice as you prefer. Focus this time on getting to know your spouse better, perhaps in the areas you’ve rarely talked about. Determine to make it an enjoyable evening for you and your mate.”

I am not going to lie I LOVE TO COOK. We tend to stay in during the week where I cook dinner and we eat together. We head out for a nice, fun dinner on Friday night or over the weekend. I suggested to my Fiancé that we go out for a nice dinner and enjoy ourselves. So we did. I had planned in my head that we would go out to a nicer dinner and intentionally leave our phones at home on the kitchen table. So, we decided it was a Friday night after a long week we would head out to Zipps.logoWe love eating at Zipps for their happy hour. They have great specials and there is some kind of sport on TV. So we head out for dinner. When we arrive my Fiance trys to pull his phone out but he has left it at home. Inside I am jumping up and down. I had forgotten that we would leave them home. We had a great dinner where we recapped our weeks and talked about things that if we both had our phones we would not have. After coming home I reread the Day 18 chapter and dare where I then noticed that at the bottom of the page in small print it states “for a list of questions related to today’s are, see the Appendix, page 206.” I then turned to that page and was bummed I didn’t see the questions earlier. I think that we will be going back and redoing this dare. I am curious what his answers are to the questions in the back of the book. If you do this dare please don’t feel like you HAVE TO do it tonight. Just be sure that you make time for your significant other. I have included a few questions for you to ask your significant other if you have not purchased the book! If you do have the book there are several more questions in which you can ask your spouse.

Questions

Tip: Try to keep the mood and focus positive. Listen more than you talk.

Personal:

  • What is your greatest hope or dream?
  • What three things would you like to do before the nest year passes?
  • When was the last time you felt filled with joy?

Marital:

  • What are three things that I do that drive you crazy?
  • What things in the past do you wish could be erased from ever happening?
  • What words would you like to hear from me more often?

Let me know if you complete this dare by commenting below. If you did complete the dare was it helpful and insightful?

Peace and Love

Blogging AWARD: Liebster Award

liebster

I was nominated a few weeks ago for the Liebster Award by Britney over at all things Britney Lee and I was/am soooooo excited. I had great intentions of making sure I was able to answer the questions and nominate blogging friends in a timely manner but school got the best of me. I now have a little bit of time to answer the questions and be able to nominate my blogging friends.

Here goes nothing………

  1. what are some of your favorite movies? Currently I am watching Pitch Perfect while I sew and craft. I am a big fan of the movie Old School.
  2. what is one of your favorite quotes? My favorite quote is one that I have repeated again and again since I was in high school and that is “Work like you don’t need the money, Love like you have never been hurt, and Dance like no one is watching!”
  3. if you could learn to do anything, what would it be? I think if I could learn to do one thing it would be to make a good well thought out workout plan. I love to work out but feel silly when I go into the gym alone (without a trainer). If I was able to write my own workouts and actually look like I know what I was doing I would like that!
  4. if you had to change you first name, what would you change it to? Change my first name? Man this is a hard question! I have LOTS of names that I love but it would be hard to replace my name with something else. I currently love the names Everly, Lola, and Presley.
  5. what are three pet peeves of yours? Currently my pet peeves are (1) when students just assume that because one person asked to do something or use something that they are also aloud to do the same (2) I am a tall girl and have been blessed with long legs. When people are walking REALLY slow or they just stop in the middles of the path is a pet peeve of mine (3) Last but not least when people tell me I am too loud or that I talk too much. I love to meet new people and feel that being a talkative person is a positive trait that I have.
  6. what is your favorite joke? When I read this question I laughed to myself a bit! Growing up my dad would tell us this joke and it is one I still tell people to joke around with them. “Knock, Knock. Who’s there? Banana. Knock, Knock. Who’s there? Banana. Knock, Knock. Who’s there? Orange. Orange Who? Orange you glad I didn’t say Banana again.”
  7. what are three of your guilty pleasures? Three guilty pleasures of mine are (1) I am a reality TV junky. I tend to watch any kind of reality TV show on my TV (2) I LOVE coffee. I will stop and get a coffee wherever I am in the morning. I really enjoy trying out new little local coffee shops (3) I really love to go into craft stores. I guess my last guilty pleasure would be I really like to try LOTS of different crafts and I have LOTS of craft supplies.
  8. if you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today? If I knew I was going to die tomorrow I would be sure that today I would surround myself with the people I love, friends and family. I would do all the things I love to do, and eat all my favorite meals.
  9. what is your favorite physical features about yourself. I would say that my favorite physical feature is my eyes. They are a light honey brown color. Depending on the color I am wearing, how I am feeling or the light I am in my eyes will change colors. Many people don’t notice them and some will walk up start talking with me then are caught off guard by my eye color.
  10. why are you so awesome? I think I am awesome because I really love to craft, cook and blog. I am a very outgoing and friendly person. I always see the positive in the situation or in the person. I am awesome because if I have a friend in need I tend to drop everything and help.

I am nominating the following 10 AWESOME bloggers (be sure you check out their sites):

Jenna @applestoziti– She has a great food blog, and she is a good friend of mine! She is raising three cute kids.
